Cyclone Dineo Moving Towards Namibia
Tropical Storm Dineo, which has been building along the east coast of southern Africa, made landfall in Mozambique battering two coastal towns with heavy rain and wind at speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour (100 mph).
Television footage showed roofs blown off houses, electricity pylons uprooted and trees sprawled across the streets.
Dineo was expected to move westward, toward South Africa, and neighbouring countries including Namibia. “It has the capability of causing a lot of destruction mainly over the low lying areas,” said Weather Forecaster Odillo Kgobetsi. Heavy falls of more than 50 mm and gusty winds are expected in the Omaheke, Eastern parts of Otjozondjupa, Hardap and Khomas regions over the weekend where flash floods are most likely. Residents are advised to take the necessary precautions.
