– The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology has announced a period of mourning for H.E. Dr. Hage G. Geingob, from today until the date of his funeral. During the mourning period, the National Flag and all other flags are hoisted at half-mast across the country and at Namibian missions around the globe. The funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
– Vice President His Excellency Dr Nangolo Mbumba has been sworn is as the new Namibian president at a ceremony at statehouse yesterday, just hours after the sudden death of His Excellency Dr Hage Gottfried Geingob. 82 Year old Geingob died early yesterday while receiving medical treatment for cancer at the Lady Pohamba Hospital in Windhoek. President Geingob was first sworn-in as president in 2015, but had served in top political positions since independence in 1990.
– At the same occassion, the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation and SWAPO Party Vice President, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah was sworn in as the new Vice President of the Republic of Namibia.
