– Telecom Namibia, NPTH and the Namibia Public Workers Union concluded the 2022/2023 wage and salary negotiations that provides for an inflationary adjustment of 4% across the board for all TN employees, effective from 1 October 2022. The housing qualifying amount has also been increased by N$100,000 across the board, daily allowance by N$50, subsistence and travelling allowance for hotel stay and private stay by N$45, and the normal standby allowance has been increased by N$6.00.
– The South African authorities say they have uncovered a coal-smuggling syndicate that has played a major role in exacerbating the country’s energy crisis, BBC reports. The South African Revenue Service (Sars) led what was described as a search and seizure operation across five provinces where the smugglers are active – Gauteng, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal, Free State and Limpopo. – BBC
– The UN says it has been told by Israel that everyone in north Gaza should relocate to the south in the next 24 hours. About 1.1 million people – around half of the Gaza Strip’s population – are affected. The warning comes as Israel is expected to launch a ground offensive into Gaza to root out militant group Hamas. – BBC
