The Tribe: Brain The Tool-The Man, The Music, The Mind
You may know him as ‘the Black Asian’, Mathew Ishitile or Brain The Tool.
These are the many faces of this multi-talented creative who now focuses his skills on the various roles he now occupies within the Namibian media and entertainment scene.
Describing his ‘The Black Asian’ alter ego as a quiet, graceful warrior who dwells in the mountains, Brain says that his last EP, ‘The Black Asian’, which was a tribute to this persona, was a unique project.
“It was just something that could have only happened once, so it was also way beyond me at the time, it was something I needed to get out,” he says. The project was described by The Namibian as “heavily influenced by old school hip−hop, jazz, blues and Afro−futurism” and “very clearly an EP for hip−hop heads.”
Brain the Tool has had a very unique journey with music.
He learnt to play the marimba and began touring at eleven, while his interest in rap started at 14.
“I think I just had a very different calling, you know. For me, music wasn’t something gain fame from or to make money out of, it was just kind of something that I was given, because you know I had a role in society through music. I was able to convey my concern, my intelligence, and my ideas,” he says.
Today, Brain has taken a step back from making music and is fully invested on his work as a Sound Engineer at TribeFire Studios. In his free time, he heads marketing of Donlu Africa.
Brain also dabbles in film and video production, continuously building his brand as a multidisciplinary media professional.
