The Ondangwa Town Council has committed N$14.5 million to upgrade and surface a 1.3km access road in Extension 7.
Chief Executive Officer Ismael Namgongo announced the project during a groundbreaking ceremony today.
Namgongo said that the road upgrade is necessary for connecting businesses and institutions, including NORED, GIPF, and Ondangwa Private Hospital.
“This project is part of the Council’s five-year Strategic Plan (2023–2028), which aims to address community needs such as proper infrastructure and surfaced roads.”
The project includes bitumen surfacing from Gwashamba Mall to Sun Square Mall, street lighting at key intersections, and stormwater channels to reduce flooding.
Namgongo stressed that the road upgrade is crucial for Ondangwa’s development, alongside other ongoing Council projects. “This is just one of the initiatives in our strategic plan. Through extensive community consultations, we identified priorities such as better sporting facilities, leisure parks, and surfaced roads,” he added.
