Cricket Namibia breaks ground for first international cricket stadium

In a historic moment for Namibian cricket, Cricket Namibia, alongside its partners, convened for a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the commencement of construction for the nation’s inaugural international cricket stadium, signifying a significant stride forward in the development of cricket in the country and beyond.

Expressing deep appreciation, the Minister of Sport, Youth and National Service Agnes Tjongarero, extended gratitude to all stakeholders whose unwavering commitment and support have translated this visionary project into reality.

“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the stakeholders who have contributed to making this dream a reality. To the architects, sponsors, investors, and the cricketing community, your unwavering support and dedication have been instrumental in reaching this milestone,” said Tjongarero.

The minister emphasized the profound impact the stadium will have, not only as a venue for exhilarating matches but also as a nucleus for talent cultivation, sportsmanship promotion, and fostering international camaraderie.

Looking ahead to the prestigious 2027 World Cup, slated to be hosted in Namibia, Tjongarero called upon the nation’s cricketers to seize the moment.

“I call upon our players to rise to the occasion. This stadium will not only represent bricks and mortar; it is a testament of our passion for cricket and our determination to excel on the world stage,” Tjongarero added.
