Government fast-tracks access to clean cooking funds after Paris summit


The Minister of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform Honourable Carl Schlettwein reported on Namibia’s participation in the Summit on Clean Cooking in Africa, held in Paris on the 14th of May.

Following the summit, Cabinet noted the availability of U$2.2 billion in pledged funds to support clean cooking initiatives across Africa. This presents a significant opportunity for Namibia to improve access to clean cooking solutions for concerned communities.

Recognizing this potential, the Cabinet directed the ministries of Environment, Forestry and Tourism, Mines and Energy, and Health and Social Services to collaborate on accessing these funds and develop mechanisms to secure Namibia’s share and utilize it to support communities most in need of clean cooking options.

A progress report on their efforts is expected by the 16th Deliberative Cabinet meeting scheduled for the 10th of September.
