99FM – Your Inspiration Station

ICAN Passport to the World – If They Can I Can with Johannes Sheya

Welcome to the ICAN Passport to the World series.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Namibia have invited 99FM’s Kirsty Watermeyer to meet some of their members. Namibians who have built their careers and lives around the field of accounting. These Namibians are the shapers of industry, captains in their fields, who are growing and building business in Namibia.

One such Namibian whose journey to become an accountant is pure Namibian inspiration is that of Johannes Sheya, Lecturer and Coordinator of Chartered Accountancy Program at UNAM. Sheya qualified as a Chartered Accountant and was employed by Ohlthaver & List as Financial Controller and Relationship Manager: Corporate and Commercial at FNB Namibia.

“In life nothing comes easy. You know you need to go through obstacles, you fall, you need to pick yourself up eight times and face the road ahead, so don’t give up, stay committed, dedication and working smartly to actually obtaining your goals, but never give up.”

“So you if you love numbers, that’s your passion, go for it full force and don’t look back, it’s a long route but at the end of the day it’s really worth it, trust me.”

“It is very rewarding like say, at a place, I met one of the students, “Oh hi sir, I’ve finished, I’m working here”…, it just makes me feel good that I at least contributed to someone’s learning.”
