ICAN Passport to the World – If They Can I Can with Junius Mungunda
Welcome to the ICAN Passport to the World series.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Namibia have invited 99FM’s Kirsty Watermeyer to meet some of their members. Namibians who have built their careers and lives around the field of accounting. These Namibians are the shapers of industry, captains in their fields, who are growing and building business in Namibia.
One such Namibian whose journey to become an accountant is pure Namibian inspiration is that of Mr. Junius Vetumbuavi Mungunda, who currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer at Standard Bank Namibia Limited.
“…doing better is not really about achievement, but is doing better not to disappoint other people.”
Mungunda had been Regional Managing Partner for the Deloitte Southern Corridor at Deloitte & Touche Corporate Finance Gmbh since July 2012 and had also been a Managing Partner of Deloitte Namibia since 2007.
“I actually took it as a challenge, so I wanted to actually prove that I should, I would be able to succeed, and it required lots of dedication and effort from my side.”
He had been with Deloitte for over 17 years, joined as a trainee accountant in 1996 in the Windhoek office and then served as an Audit Manager.
“…Integrity encompasses a number of things…objectivity, independence of mind, honesty, trustworthiness, and as I said these are just good universal values of being a good person or being a better person.”
He was the first black partner and managing partner of one of 4 big firms in Namibia.
Watch his incredible story with us… If You Can #ICAN.
