Namibians march for Basic Income Grant to combat poverty

The Basic Income Grant (BIG) Coalition of Namibia is gearing up for a protest march this Saturday. They aim to raise awareness and advocate for the implementation of a universal Basic Income Grant (BIG) of N$500 per person, per month.

The coalition believes this initiative is crucial to address Namibia’s high poverty rates, widespread unemployment, and concerning levels of social inequality. These factors are seen as significant roadblocks to the country’s socio-economic progress.

The march, planned to start at 8:00 AM from the Katutura Youth Complex and proceed to Zoo Park via Independence Avenue, will culminate in the presentation of petitions gathered nationwide. These petitions will be presented to the Minister of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication, and Social Welfare, Doreen Sioka.
