The mysterious bicycle ride of Kazimierz Nowak through Namibia


Today we’re sharing the story of a man named Kazimierz Nowak, a Polish traveler who, back in 1931, set off on an unbelievable journey — all the way from Poland, through Africa, and back again. He spent over five years on the road, mostly on a bicycle, and even traveled over 2,000 kilometers through Namibia on horseback after his bike broke down.

Nowak wrote emotional letters home to his wife and children, many of which have now been found and shared by a group of storytellers — author Tom Ysewijn, actor Titus de Voogdt. They were so inspired by Nowak’s journey that they’re now cycling his route through Namibia and creating a podcast about it.

They’re also hoping to learn more about his time here — and they’re asking Namibians for help. Maybe someone remembers a story from their parents or grandparents about a strange Polish man passing through. Here is the full interview:
