NSA reveals preliminary voter eligibility figures from 2023 census

The Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) has released preliminary data from the 2023 Census, offering a detailed snapshot of eligible voters in Namibia.

According to the latest figures, as of the census reference night on September 24, 2023, there are a total of 1,667,778 Namibian citizens eligible to vote in the upcoming elections. This number includes 789,775 males and 878,003 females.

The data is categorized into two main groups:

– Eligible voters aged 18 and over:  There are 1,615,910 Namibians in this age group, with 763,772 males and 852,138 females.

– Namibians aged 17 at the census reference night: There are 51,868 individuals in this category, including 26,003 males and 25,865 females, who have since turned 18 and are now eligible to register to vote.

This release follows the Census data announced on March 13, 2024, which provides a comprehensive look at the Namibian population as of late September 2023.

It’s important to note that the figures do not include Namibians living abroad, as the 2023 Census used a De Facto Methodology, focusing on individuals present in Namibia on the reference night.

The NSA’s new figures are expected to guide voter registration efforts and help prepare for the upcoming elections.
