Otjomuise man’s remains found eight months later

The police on Friday announced the discovery of human skeletal remains, a few kilometres west of Otjomuise suburb, in Windhoek on 18 August. 

In a statement, the police said a goat herder had discovered what they suspected to be the remains of Iiyambo Beatus Tuna Kashanu, who was reported missing in January 2025.  

They further said the items recovered at the scene were clothing, sandals, cash, bank cards and identity documents bearing Kashanu’s name. 

The statement said the remains have been taken to the Forensic Science Institute for DNA testing and an autopsy, to establish the identity of the deceased and determine the cause of death.

Police spokesperson, Kauna Shikwambi, said the forensic process could take some time, although identification could be completed sooner depending on the results. 

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.
