#UnlockedOpportunities: Study at Yale or Join African Leaders in the USA

Looking to study at Yale or join a global network of young African leaders in the United States?
Here are two opportunities you should know about.
Yale Young Global Scholars 2027 — Study at Yale University
First up, the Yale Young Global Scholars Programme, or YYGS.
This is a two-week residential academic programme at Yale University in the United States, bringing together high school students from more than 150 countries.
The programme offers academic tracks in Science and Technology, Politics, Law and Economics, and Solving Global Challenges.
Who can apply?
You need to be between 16 and 18 years old by July 18, 2027, currently in the equivalent of high school Grade 10 or Grade 11, and able to participate in an academic programme conducted in English.
And yes, students from Namibia can apply. Yale says students from all countries are eligible, and need-based financial aid is available to students from all countries.
Financial aid can cover up to 100 percent of tuition, and some limited scholarships can also cover travel costs.
There are two application deadlines: October 15, 2026 for Early Action, and January 6, 2027 for Regular Decision

Applicants generally need to be 25 to 35 years old, although exceptional applicants aged 21 to 24 may be considered. You must also be an eligible African citizen and resident, proficient in English, eligible for a J-1 visa, and not a previous Mandela Washington Fellow.
The 2027 application deadline is October 13, 2026, with the Fellowship beginning in June 2027.
