World Ranger Day 2025: Protect our Wildlife Protectors

Today, on World Ranger Day 2025, we salute the brave men and women on the frontlines of conservation. Celebrated under the theme “Rangers, Powering Transformative Conservation,” the day highlights the crucial role rangers play in protecting wildlife and preserving Africa’s natural heritage — often at great personal risk.
Across Africa, nearly 60,000 rangers face immense challenges, from wildlife crime and habitat loss to long hours in isolation. Namibia’s own rangers — like Natasha Gomes from Hûab Conservancy and Heiki Haukongo from N/a’an ku sê Foundation — shared powerful stories of passion, sacrifice, and deep connection to the land they protect.
Local conservation NGO Wild Africa is amplifying these voices to draw attention to the urgent need for more rangers and greater community support. As ranger numbers decline globally, the call is clear: we must protect those who protect our planet.
Let’s stand with them — not just today, but every day.
