World Rhino Day full interview with Odile Gertze on 99FM

On this #WorldRhinoDay, new data from the International Rhino Foundation brings a mix of hope and urgency. While one rhino was still poached every 15 hours in Africa last year, poaching levels are now at their lowest in 13 years and global rhino numbers have grown to 26,700. Africa remains home to the majority of these iconic animals, including 6,788 critically endangered black rhinos and 15,752 near-threatened white rhinos. Yet, poaching and the illegal horn trade—driven largely by demand in Vietnam and China—continue to threaten their survival. Conservation groups like Wild Africa and Save the Rhino Trust Namibia stress that progress has been made thanks to community involvement, advanced ranger training, intelligence-led enforcement, and innovative technologies. But the fight is far from over. This FULL interview highlights Namibia’s role as a global leader in rhino conservation and reminds us all to say NO to poaching, YES to protecting habitats, and to keep rhinos roaming free for generations.
