President approves pay rise for ministers, MPs and governors

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has approved salary increment and benefits for ministers, governors and members of parliament following recommendations by the Public Office Bearers (Remuneration and Benefits) Commission.
The adjustments were implemented through a presidential proclamation dated 27 April 2026, amending the 2017 framework, with the new salary structure taking effect from 1 April this year.
According to the document seen by NewsOnOne ,the prime minister will earn N$1.3 million, along with utilities, official transport and a housing allowance of N$351 175, bringing total remuneration to about N$1.65 million.
The deputy prime minister will receive a salary of N$1.06 million, with similar benefits as the PM and a housing allowance of N$286 957, totalling about N$1.34 million.
Ministers, the attorney general, the director general of the Namibia Central Intelligence Service (NCIS), the auditor general and the director general of the National Planning Commission (NPC) will each earn a basic salary of N$1.012 million. With additional allowances, their total remuneration amounts to about N$1.34 million.
Deputy ministers will earn a basic salary of N$724 780, with total remuneration reaching N$969 791 after allowances.
In addition, the Speaker of the National Assembly will earn about N$1.40 million, while the deputy speaker will receive about N$1.25 million. The leader of the official opposition will earn approximately $1.1 million.
Chief whips and opposition leaders will earn around N$1.11 million, while ordinary members of the National Assembly will receive a total remuneration of about N$878 706.
In the National Council, the chairperson will earn about N$1.40 million, while the vice chairperson will receive about N$1.2 million.
Regional governors will earn a total remuneration of N$969 791. At regional council level, chairpersons will earn about N$926 065, while members of management committees and ordinary councillors will receive N$660 657 and N$592 836 respectively.
Public Service Commission chairpersons will earn about N$969 791, while members will receive approximately N$926 425.
Special advisors are also included in the new structure, with remuneration varying by level, ranging from about N$723 626 to over N$1.3 million.
The proclamation replaces the previous schedule and standardises salaries, allowances and benefits across government.
