President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says the sacrifices made by fallen liberation struggle heroes’ will never be forgotten.
She was speaking at Heroes’ Acre during the reburial ceremony of eight liberation struggle heroes, on Monday.
Delivering her keynote address, President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah said the SWAPO party will continue efforts to trace the whereabouts of Brendan Simbwaye and gather information that could help locate his remains.
Three of the reburied liberation struggle veterans, Tobias Hainyeko, Simon Niilenge and Festus Nehale, were brought home from South Africa, more than five-decades after departure.
“And as a party, we need to continue to work together with the government and to see how far we can go in trying to trace his whereabouts.
As for Comrade Hainyeko, as mentioned, he’s the first commander of the PLAN And it’s also our responsibility to see whether we can get a clue. In the war situation, things are not easy.
As we know up to now, there are some people from the Second World War, where they are trying to find out what really happened. And we cannot promise to do miracles,” said Ndaitwah.
Nandi-Ndaitwah also paid tribute to the eight veterans, highlighting their contributions and sacrifices during Namibia’s liberation struggle.
“There will not be anything that can match the work of these heroes. And we are bringing them here as a recognition of their contribution to Namibia’s Liberation Struggle and to recognise their courage, sacrifice and their resilience and their dedication to our struggle,” said Ndaitwah.
President Nandi-Ndaitwah is expected to bestow national honours on more than 1 000 deserving individuals on Tuesday, at the Heroes’ Acre, in recognition of their invaluable contributions, bravery and commitment to their country, Namibia.
