Pupkewitz GWM pioneers Namibia’s first full Hybrid bakkie
GWM has launched the P-SERIES P500, delivering 255kW of self-charging hybrid electric power. The all-new GWM P500 HEV is set to revolutionize the bakkie market with its impressive size and high specification levels. GWM sets the benchmark with innovative features like the 40:60 tailgate in the bakkie segment.
In a first for Namibia, GWM has launched a full Petrol Electric Hybrid Bakkie. The all-new P-Series P500 Double-Cab bakkie is the first bakkie to feature a 325-volt electric motor in Namibia, making it the second most powerful double-cab bakkie in its segment.
The P500 bakkie is available in a 2-litre turbocharged petrol self-charging hybrid variant and an all-new 2.4L Turbo Diesel. The range-topping P500 HEV delivers a powerful driving experience with 255kW and 648Nm of torque, coupled with a 9-speed automatic transmission and standard 4×4 capability across the range.
With an imposing presence of 5400mm in length and 1991mm in width, the P500 is built to go anywhere with ample space for five passengers and substantial cargo. GWM’s innovative spirit is evident in the load area, featuring exciting new features such as an electrically operated rear sliding window, a loadbox equipped with 28 anchor points, a loadbox lamp, and a unique split rear tailgate with conventional drop-down or 40:60 barn door-style opening for easier loading.

GWM’s latest self-charging HEV engine complements the brand’s new larger vehicle design, delivering a smooth driving experience with instant power. The 9-speed automatic transmission adds to the premium luxury feel of the P500 with seamless gear shifts.
The P500 Hybrid’s intelligent hybrid drive system combines a 78kW (268Nm) electric motor with a 2-liter 180kW (380Nm) petrol engine for a combined output of 255kW and 648Nm of torque, ensuring exceptional performance and efficiency. This reflects GWM’s commitment to leadership in New Energy Vehicles.
With a combined fuel consumption of 9.8 l/100km and CO2 emissions of 225g/km, the P500 is fully capable of tackling any adventure, further enhanced by a towing capacity of up to 3500kg.
For those who prefer a traditional bakkie, the P500 is also available with a new 2.4L Turbo Diesel engine, offering 135kW and 480Nm of torque with a fuel consumption of 8.6l/100km.
The P500 is not just about luxury; it is a fully equipped 4×4 vehicle with selectable low-range gears and front and rear differential locks, making it capable of handling any terrain.
The P500 stands out with a bold front design featuring a large grille flanked by distinctive LED headlights. The grille houses the front camera and sensors for the 360-view camera, integrated into the P-Series logo. Sensors for the intelligent drive system and anti-collision radar are positioned lower on the front bumper, which also houses the LED front fog lamps. The P500 is the first bakkie in Namibia with a panoramic sunroof with tilt and slide function.
The interior of the P500 offers extensive comfort and luxury with premium finishes and high-tech advancements. The interior features Knight Black with woodgrain-style trim on select panels.
The three-spoke leather steering wheel is perfectly sized for spirited driving and is electronically adjustable with 4-way memory function. The steering-mounted controls provide easy access to key vehicle features, including the Head-Up Display, multi-media infotainment screen, and virtual instrument cluster.
The P500 Ultra Luxury double cab bakkie boasts a 10-speaker Harman Infinity™ audio system for exceptional sound quality. The seats are covered in high-quality black Nappa leather, offering heating, cooling, and an 8-option massage function.
The P500’s spacious cabin ensures comfort for all passengers, with electronically adjustable rear seats featuring heating and cooling functions, along with easy ingress and egress. The P500 also features a soundproof windshield and windows for added comfort.
The GWM P500 offers advanced active and passive safety features, typically found only in high-end luxury vehicles. These include Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, and a Driver Fatigue Monitoring System.
