PWC Partner Discusses Pre-Budget Expectations
The 2017/2018 financial Year Budget Speech is expected by Minister of Finance Honorable Calle schlettwein this week.
PWC Partner/Director Johan Nel says he would like to see the minister address critical issues like the continued drive to bring Government expenditure in line with the current budget, continued focus to manage the country’s debt exposure and forecasts on Government’s cash flow position which he says is very topical at the moment and crucial for business confidence.
Adding that he would like to see how Government would improve the ease of doing business in Namibia in order to build investor confidence for both local and international investors. In the Mid Year Budget Review the minister announced policy changes that might include budget cuts as well as strengthening tax collections. Asked whether we can expect any significant movement on the tax front, Nel said raising tax rates could potentially further slow economic growth.
