The public wage bill,  unemployment and politics …

In this Economic Association of Namibia special podcast, Nangula Uaandja notes that public and private sector productivity is directly linked to a lack of motivation by the Namibian workforce.

On the Government Wage Bill being too high, she advises Government to cut its workforce. While acknowledging that this cannot be done in isolation and if Government is to cut their workforce, the private sector should be ready and able to create more jobs.

She says that Government’s job is not to create jobs, but to create a conducive environment for the private sector to be able to create jobs.

Tiaan Bazuin from the Namibian Stock Exchange points to Private Public Partnerships as one of the best ways of ensuring productivity in key sectors by privatising them.
