#TheTribeExclusive featuring Chikune

Known for her songs like ‘Pumpkin’, ‘Sammy’ and the catchy ‘Too Much Sauce’, Chikune is an all round artist who grabs attention whenever she hits the stage.

In this throwback edition of #TheTribeExclusive, the singer talks all things music from making music to experiencing what it can do for the soul.

Her music career started with her taking part in competitions, and in 2012 she flew to LA to represent Namibia at the World Championships of the Performing Arts, where she earned the title of Senior Vocalist of the World.

In 2014, she officially started her singing career  and describes her experience in the industry since then as amazing.

Her rise to the top happened very fast and was a bit unexpected for the young singer who says the only down side of her success is people always having expectations of her. She also notes that the lack of respect for musicians is another concern.“Music isn’t a joke, it’s not something you just go into Namibians should have more respect for musicians,” she says.

Chikune is an Afro-jazz musician who also dabbles in Afropop from time to time.

Her passion for music is rooted in the way that it makes her feel,. “I listen to music when I’m down or had a long day, it uplifts you and that’s one of the things I really want to do for people when they listen to my music,” she says.
