Wake Up! Early Educational Centre: Quality Montessori education in the heart of Otjomuise

Nestled in the heart of Otjomuise on the city’s outskirts, the WakeUp! Montessori Early Education Early Education Centre offers a unique and nurturing learning environment.

Established in 2009, the only Montessori-inspired early childhood education centre in the area provides quality education and care to families in the community, catering to children between the ages of two and six.

Sarafia Thomas, Vice-Principal and Board Member highlights the holistic approach of Montessori education. Beyond academics, Montessori focuses on developing the child’s potential for independence and community involvement. By combining abstract and concrete learning methods, Montessori allows for personalized one-on-one interactions and exploration-based learning. Thomas also emphasizes the long-term benefits of quality preschool education. She says: “A strong foundation in early childhood can lead to smoother transitions to higher grades and increased academic success. Nurturing a child’s natural love of learning through quality education can empower them to achieve great heights. Moreover, investing in quality preschool education can contribute to a nation’s progress by reducing failure rates and school dropouts.”

Jolandi Seibes, Principal of WakeUp! Montessori Early Education Centre emphasizes the importance of sensory exploration and independent habits in Montessori education. Children, as natural explorers, benefit from sensory exercises that refine their senses, leading to strong visual, auditory, and tactile discrimination skills. These skills are crucial for future academic success.

“Montessori education fosters independence by teaching children self-care and responsibility. This approach, combined with the prepared Montessori environment tailored to the child’s developmental needs, helps children become successful and contributing members of society,” she says.

Parents who have enrolled their children at Wake Up! have expressed satisfaction with the centre’s approach. “I’ve noticed a significant improvement in my child’s language skills and confidence since starting here,” said one parent.”The teachers are incredibly patient and supportive.”
