Windhoek marks Geingob’s legacy with inaugural Town Hall Conversation

The Hage G. Geingob Presidential Centre will launch the inaugural Dr Hage G. Geingob Town Hall Conversation in Windhoek this evening, aimed at preserving the legacy of the late president.

Speaking ahead of the event, organising team member Ambassador Albertus Aochamub said the initiative is part of what the Centre calls the Hage Geingob Town Hall Series, inspired by the countrywide town hall meetings Geingob held during his presidency, some of which lasted up to seven hours as he engaged directly with citizens on issues that later shaped government policy.

Former President Nangolo Mbumba will deliver the keynote address at tonight’s event, which also marks what would have been Geingob’s 85th birthday. A panel discussion moderated by some of Geingob’s peers will follow, unpacking themes raised in Mbumba’s lecture.

Aochamub said the Centre’s broader mission is to promote the ideas Geingob championed, including inclusive governance, constitutionalism and Pan-Africanism, along with his belief in Namibia’s role within the African continent and the global community. He added that the town hall series will continue annually as part of efforts to honour Geingob’s legacy.
