Solving a Murder Mystery at an Exhibition
The stage is set for an exhibition that is also the scene of a murder mystery. An anonymous artist has, in a mischievous yet meticulous style, prepared an entertaining journey in art for all who visit the National Art Gallery of Namibia (NAGN).
On this voyage you will be provoked to look deeper into art history and question what mythology could look like in the modern era. There are pieces that ask how art from some of the most prolific periods in art history around the world, relates back to today. All while solving a murder mystery puzzle, that has been brought to life in brushstrokes.
The exhibition is titled Who Killed Mr. Art? 99FM’s MYD Art spoke to the mystery artist, who wishes to remain anonymous, about this avant-garde collection. “I hate the limelight but somebody asked me to do this exhibition.” Laughs the artist who adds “I love art, and art history is all about our civilisation. Its an illustrated history.”
Making it all the more intriguing and adding to the variety of the collection, some pieces are a journey into the history of the lives of the great artists. One such piece is titled Gala had the feeling she was being watched. A piece which looks at the life of the famous surrealist painter Salvador Dalí, and his wife and muse, Gala.
The NAGN, writes about this exhibition, “This exhibition further stands as testimony of the Mystery Artist’s love of art and art history. However this playful attitude is accompanied by a depth of knowledge and a sense of humour that cannot fail to please.”
For an exhibition where you solve a murder mystery while enjoying the good humour of this artist, be sure to visit the Who Killed Mr. Art, exhibition hosted at the NAGN from 2 February 2017 until 4 March 2017.
