President Mbumba appoints Boundaries Delimitation and Demarcation Commission
President Nangolo Mbumba has announced the appointment of members to the Boundaries Delimitation and Demarcation Commission. This commission has been tasked with evaluating the existing boundaries of regions and constituencies in Namibia, with the aim of determining whether any adjustments are necessary or beneficial.
The year 2024 has been dubbed the “Year of Expectations and Elections” in Namibia, highlighting the significance of the commission’s work. The outcomes of their assessment will play a crucial role in facilitating the electoral process, particularly by assisting the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) in accurately registering eligible voters within the appropriate regions and constituencies.
Recognizing that Namibia’s population has surpassed the 3 million mark, the commission’s work becomes even more vital. With a majority of the population comprising youth, the commission’s findings will provide valuable insights into the evolving demographics of the nation. These insights will inform responsive policy interventions by the government, ensuring that the needs and interests of the population are adequately addressed.
President Mbumba emphasized the importance of this task, asserting that the foundations of Namibia’s democracy must be fortified by accurate, reliable, and relevant information. The government anticipates that the commission’s report will serve as a cornerstone for shaping future policies and electoral processes in the country.
