The MYD Show – Balance and Cycles with Martha Khoeses
Martha Khoeses is an inspirational Namibian who took a difficult situation in her life and turned it into something that will benefit many Namibian children.
When Martha’s son was diagnosed with dyslexia she said her world shattered because she thought her dreams for him were over. After the diagnosis she discovered that there is little support for children, and parents of children, with learning disabilities in Namibia.
This, and her son’s desire to celebrate life no matter what, encouraged her to start an organisation that will provide this type of support.
Her experiences are now providing support to other families with similar stories. When she’s not starting support organisations, Martha is a working woman, a student and a mother.
In this episode of the MYD Show, Martha Khoeses shares with us :
- What it has been like as a parent of a child with a learning disability
- The shortcomings in support for these types of disabilities and what Martha hopes to do about that
- What they hope to achieve with Dantani – the association for children with learning disabilities
- Martha’s message to parents in Namibia
