Afrospection with Karen Powell

Creativity Coach, Karen Powell shares here her learnings and lessons from the past year, her self examination from Africa… her Afrospection.

Karen’s favourite that quote right now:

Be yourself and everything else will fall into place.

If you could wake up tomorrow having gained any one quality or ability, what would it be?

KP: I’d love to have my 20/20 vision back.

What challenged you in 2018 and how did you overcome this challenge?

KP: I’ve been living way outside of my comfort zone this whole year. Creating something new, learning new tech, doing new things I’ve never done before. I’m overcoming these challenges by taking one small step at a time, and also being willing to ask for help.

What’s one thing that bothers you most about the world today?

KP: The way people put others down. But there’s me putting people down for putting others down. I find it fascinating that Life is one big mirror and if you look at what you complain about, you’ll usually find that you’re doing that same thing in some way. I know this will probably annoy some people, but if you want the world to change then you have to first start with yourself.

What was your biggest personal development learning of 2018?

KP: That things just take longer than you think they will. But it’s in the commitment of small, consistent steps that anything gets done. So you just have to keep getting up, dusting yourself off and moving forward. Just don’t stop.

What is your wish for Namibia for 2018?

KP: My greatest wish for this beautiful country and its people is that we all have compassion and respect for each other.

Where do you find your inspiration?

KP: In nature, bubble baths, and people who climb Mt. Everest. I’m currently climbing my own proverbial Everest and I find myself thinking about climbers and their relentless drive to get to that summit. How do they keep going in those conditions? Then I take my next small action step and feel grateful that at least I’m nice and warm and my fingers aren’t about to fall off.

What’s on your bucket list for 2019?

KP: I’m launching my signature online course in 2019. It’s a 90-day guide to healing your relationship with money, finding your purpose and creating an impact in the world. It’s really a beautiful program and I’m super excited to release it out into the world.

Do you believe in second chances?

KP: Dear God yes. Judge not, lest ye be judged.

What skill do you wish you had?

KP: I think it would be amazing to speak and understand all the languages of the world.
