Erongo Region pumps millions into infrastructure, housing and water projects as development drive gains momentum

The Erongo Region is accelerating its development agenda with millions of dollars invested in housing, water infrastructure, sanitation and rural development projects aimed at improving living conditions and stimulating economic growth.
Delivering the 2026 State of the Region Address in Swakopmund earlier this month, Erongo governor, Nathalia /Goagoses, highlighted a series of infrastructure projects and investments that are reshaping communities across the region.
One of the region’s major milestones was the successful upgrade of Uis to local authority status, making it Erongo’s eighth local authority area. To support its growth, the Erongo Regional Council has committed N$1 million towards the development of an Infrastructure Master Plan for the town.
The governor also revealed that through the Build Together Programme, 41 houses are expected to be completed by the end of this year. Seven houses have already been completed, while additional units are under construction in Uis, Omatjete and Otjimbingwe.
Water security remains a key priority for the region. Construction of the Uis bulk water pipeline is underway at a cost of N$8.5 million and is expected to ensure a reliable water supply to the growing town once completed.
In another significant development, the 31-kilometre Ozondati–Omatjete Bulk Water Pipeline was completed and commissioned at a cost of N$32 million, providing long-term relief to residents and laying the foundation for the future formalisation of Omatjete.
The region is also investing heavily in improving basic services. In Otjimbingwe, 69 households were connected to the sewer network through a N$1.8 million project, while the ongoing N$17 million water reticulation project in Wlotzkasbaken will connect 258 erven directly to a reliable water supply, replacing expensive water tanker services.
Meanwhile, upgrades to the Okombahe sewer system and infrastructure planning initiatives are costing approximately N$900 000, while a one-kilometre gravel road in the settlement has been upgraded to bitumen standard at a cost of N$1.8 million through funding from the Road Fund Administration (RFA).
Beyond infrastructure, the governor said the Constituency Development Fund has supported women and youth-led projects, including tailoring, gardening, baking and small-scale mining initiatives across all seven constituencies. A total of N$700 000 was spent on services and equipment for beneficiaries.
The agriculture sector also received notable support, with N$2 million allocated to the Small Stock Distribution and Development Programme, benefiting 20 communal farmers through the distribution of 420 small livestock units.
Governor /Goagoses said these investments form part of broader efforts to drive inclusive development, create opportunities and improve the quality of life for communities across the region.
“The state of the Erongo Region is one of resilience, progress and hope,” she said, reaffirming the region’s commitment to building an inclusive, prosperous and sustainable future for all residents.
