Ethos of Ancient

Dr Margaret Jacobsohn is a Namibian writer, anthropologist and community-based conservation specialist.

The co-founder of Integrated Rural Development and Nature Conservation (IRDNC), and a mentor for Conservancy Safaris Namibia, Dr Jacobsohn is an authority on the social organisation and cultural economy of the semi-nomadic Himba people of Namibia and Angola and a highly awarded conservationist.

In this episode of the MYD Earth Show, she joins us to talk about the wisdom in ancient cultures and how being solutions driven is the answer to conservation, and life.

“One of the most important things, I’ve learnt in all the different fields that I’ve worked in, is don’t focus on the problem, focus on the solution. I think this is one of the reasons why Namibia is a leader in conservation. We don’t just focus on the poaching, which is the problem, we’ve jumped over the poaching and we’ve focused on how to stop the poaching. Lets look at the solutions, and thats what community based conservation is about.”
