In this episode of the MYD Earth Show, we speak to the acting Chief Executive Officer of Namdeb Diamond Corporation, Markus Lubbe, about why sustainability needs to be a cornerstone of mining, corporate and individual existence.
“Our vision is to go to 2050 and beyond, but by it’s nature when the resource runs out the mining will stop. We must make sure in that period that we’ve made a positive contribution to the world… the ecology and our people.”
Mr. Lubbe explains how we have reached a tipping point in terms of consumption and it is up to each individual and corporation alike to look at their part when it comes to sustainability.
“You want to make a positive contribution so what we’ve done, at Namdeb we’ve gout our six ambitions. We looked at what the world will look like in 2050 and what can we do to contributive positively to that. One of them [the six ambitions] is obviously environmental because we are in a national park, in the South-Western corner of Namibia, and it’s a very fragile zone.”
