NSFAF promises weekly student payment from June

By: Staff Reporter

The education ministry says the Namibia Students Financial Assistance Fund (NSFAF) will introduce a new weekly payment system aimed at improving disbursements.

The information comes from a media release issued by the ministry’s executive director, Erastus Haitengela, on Wednesday.

“To further address student concerns and improve the efficiency of disbursements, NSFAF has implemented a payment strategy aimed at ensuring that non-tuition fee payments are processed on a weekly basis, effective from the second week of June 2026,” he said.

He added that the fund is continuing to process tuition and non-tuition payments for the 2026 academic year.

“The ministry remains actively engaged with institutions of higher learning, TVET centres, and student leadership structures to ensure that students are not unfairly affected during this implementation phase,” he said.

The assurance comes after a week of mounting pressure on NSFAF, with student representative bodies raising alarm over delayed non-tuition payments and the financial strain facing beneficiaries across the country.

Some institutions have also expressed concern over outstanding payments, while students warned that prolonged delays were affecting accommodation, food and academic participation.
