Telecom Namibia CEO takes up regional CRASA role

By: Josia Shigwedha
Telecom Namibia’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Stanley Shanapinda, has accepted his appointment as Executive Secretary of the Communications Regulators’ Association of Southern Africa (CRASA).
CRASA is the regional body responsible for promoting regulatory harmonisation and cooperation among communications regulators within the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
The appointment, announced in a media release issued by the company on Tuesday, follows a regional recruitment process and is being hailed as a significant achievement for both Shanapinda and Namibia’s telecommunications and Information and Communication Technology sector.
Shanapinda has served as CEO of Telecom Namibia since 2021 and is expected to bring extensive industry knowledge and leadership experience to his new regional role.
His appointment places a Namibian at the helm of one of the region’s key communications regulatory organisations, which works to strengthen collaboration, regulatory harmonisation and policy alignment among communications regulators across SADC member states.
The move is expected to further elevate Namibia’s profile in the regional communications sector while contributing to efforts aimed at advancing regulatory cooperation and development across Southern Africa.
