Teacher on the run after allegedly raping his niece

By: Staff Reporter
A family member of a 13-year-old girl who was allegedly raped by her uncle, a teacher at Ncwa Junior Primary School in the Ndiyona Constituency in Kavango East Region, says the family is devastated that the suspect has not yet been arrested despite a week-long search.
The alleged incident occurred last Friday at Makena Village. The victim is a learner at Makena Primary School.
According to the family spokesperson, Lindo Cervatius, the teenager had gone to assist her uncle with baby-sitting his child after the child’s mother had left the house.
Cervatius alleged that the suspect sent the girl to his bedroom to fetch a diaper for the baby. It was there that the suspect allegedly entered the room and raped the victim.
“We are all not happy including the mother. The teenager has not attended school for a week and says she’s afraid of being victimised,” Cervatius said.
He further added that both the victim and her mother remain vulnerable and have visited the hospital since the alleged incident occurred.
Cervatius told NewsonOne that community members have informed the family that the suspect’s brother may know the whereabouts of the accused.
The family is urging the police to intensify their efforts to locate the suspect and bring him to justice.
Speaking to NewsonOne, Kavango East Deputy Commissioner for Crime Investigations, Bonifatius Kanyetu, confirmed that the case was reported at the Ndiyona Police Station.
However, he stated that investigators are still in the process of establishing all the facts surrounding the matter.
Kanyetu further stressed that the police will continue their search and will not rest until the suspect is arrested.
