The MYD Show – Spend a Moment in My Reality with Danene van der Westhuyzen

In our series, Spend a Moment in My Reality, we took a moment to chat to a Namibian with a unique story to tell. Danene van der Westhuyzen is the President of the Namibian Professional Hunting Association and first female to ever qualify in Namibia as a dangerous game Professional Hunter. Danene is also the Chair of the Outfitters and Professional Hunting Associations of Africa.

“Ultimately a hunter should know the reason why he does it and why it plays such a big role in conservation. We are also busy writing up a new national code of conduct for all hunters in Namibia, whether you’re a meat hunter or a trophy hunter or a citizen hunter, that you should take part in those certain principles and ethics.”

In this episode of the MYD Show, Danene explains the link between ethical professional hunting and conservation and how professional hunting supports nature conservation.

“Some mornings I’ll wake up and think, ‘Wow’ we are so privileged to have been born in Africa and especially in Namibia. Nothing gives you a better feeling than just being out there and not only speaking about it but literally doing something about it.”
