How Namibia Balances Development and the Environment
Development has often in the past, been at the expense of the environment however this does not have to be the case. In Namibia, passionate scientists are working to ensure that development today has the earth at the forefront.
In addition, here in Namibia, our development plans list our natural environment as a competitive advantage, highlighting why such consideration is paramount. Dr. Morgan Hauptfleisch, the Senior Lecturer in the Agriculture and Natural Resources Sciences Department of the Namibia University of Science and Technology, came to share with us on the MYD Earth Show about where Namibia stands in terms of balancing development and protection of our environment and natural resources.
Here are some of the areas covered in this episode of MYD Earth:
- What Vision 2030 says about protecting the environment and ensuring the impacts of development are dealt with
- The boom of exploiting the natural resources of Africa and how scientists are working to ensure Africa learns from the mistakes made by more developed countries that have exploited their own resources
- How to be relevant today by making development sustainable
- How Namibia is a leader in strategic environmental assessment, which looks at the impacts of less obvious and less tangible actions on the environment
