Sam’s Advice for 2016
“For 2016, being healthy both physical and mental must be a key goal. Before we think of other goals that we would like to set for ourselves, we must deliberately ensure that we take good care of our health.”
As we usher in of another year filled with hope and optimism for what lies ahead, 99FM’s MYD Smart spoke to the man who last year, inspired us with his story of dedication and commitment. Sam Shivute was born in the village in Northern Namibia and today he is the Director of the Banking Services Department at Bank of Namibia and fast becoming one of Namibia’s top motivational speakers. He has become well-known in Namibia for what he has single-handedly achieved in his life, and he has prepared the following piece for us to keep us committed to our paths this year in the hopes of our own success and greatness in the year to come.
Advice for 2016 by Sam Shivute
The beginning of a new year often brings with it many emotions. At this time of the year, some people are excited because they have achieved their annual goals of last year, and some are frustrated because they just woke up to the reality that they did not manage to achieve their goals. The good news is that if you did not achieve your goals last year, all is not lost and it is not the end of the road. Failure to achieve goals should serve as a good lesson to you to become a disciplined implementer of your goals. It must be a good lesson for one to start appreciating and to value the principle of delivery and the importance of execution.
This article is inspired by two motivational speaking assignments that I recently carried out. At one of the talks I spoke on the power of Gratitude where around a room of colleagues we spoke about what we were grateful for in 2015. This was quite an interesting and informative exercise. The guests accordingly expressed that they were gratitude for the good health that they enjoyed during the course of the year, the gift of love, the gift of healthy babies, promotions at work, and some expressed gratitude for the fact that business have been very good during 2015.
Having been inspired by what came out of these events, I would like to advise that for 2016, being healthy both physical and mental must be a key goal that must not be neglected at all. Before we think of other goals that we would like to set for ourselves, we must deliberately ensure that we take good care of our health. An investment in one personal health is the most important investment that one can make. What is the use of having achieved all other goals but your health is in tatters due to personal neglect and ill-discipline?
The other advise I would like to share is that as you approach 2016, ask yourself as to what are you going to do to be relevant to your family, your friends, your community, your country, your profession and to your industry. Different people will have different answers and whatever you decide to do in order to be or to remain relevant, make sure that you deliver on that commitment.
Like Peter Drucker said, it is not about the brilliant idea that one has, what matter is the speed at which one executes that idea.
Wishing you all the best in 2016 and let 2016 be a year of good health and effective execution of ideas.
Sam Shivute.
