Are Our Lives Off-Balance?

“When you find peace within yourself, you become the kind of person who can live at peace with others.”

In order for one to feel at peace and in touch with ones surroundings, balance is essential. In our everyday lives we should seek opportunities to grow in all of these avenues.

For anyone to achieve inner peace the four elements of self should be in balance, these are physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. And all four elements should be catered to on a daily basis.

Most Namibians are at work for eight hours of their day, meaning many of these elements fall by the wayside. The stress related to lack of exercise or limited socialisation has manifested itself in many ways in the Namibian society. The Namibian society is plagued by high suicide rates and increased levels of mental illness, so what can be done to bring about peace in the Namibian society?

Owner and founder of Yoga by Beauty, Beauty Boois believes that as humans we are exposed to a multitude of factors that influence our health and wellbeing. These factors may include stress, diet, levels of physical activity and ability to Beautydeal with everyday life issues. The interdependence of these factors can be seen in how someone dealing with the loss of a loved one might enter a state of depression if they fail to obtain the necessary emotional and spiritual support. This state of depression soon renders them incapable of leaving their house; leaving them lethargic and unable to take care of their physical self. In this and many other ways, one can see how holistic health is dependent on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.

But how does one achieve this balance in a time where everything seems to be moving at neck break speed?

Balance can be achieved easily, with some effort. The following tips can be used to bring about balance in all four spheres of life:

  1. Mental Balance:

Do activities you enjoy e.g. dancing, writing, etc.
Speak to those you love when something is bothering you
Seek medical advice if you believe you may need it

2. Emotional Balance:

  • Express gratitude to those around you
  • Find humour in every situation
  • Avoid procrastination

3. Spiritual Balance:

  • Ask for help when you need it
  • Always remember to meditate or pray
  • Share your talents

4. Physical Balance:

  • Eat your fruits and vegetables
  • Exercise at least three a week
  • Drink eight glasses of water or more daily
