Rejuvenation in Movement

“We have become so stationary in our lifestyles, we forget that we need to move our bodies. Not moving is decay.”

Women who support each other has a positive affect on health and well-being, as studies show the importance of close female bonds. This model, that has supported women through generations, is part of the philosophy of one women orientated health centre in Windhoek. 99FM’S MYD Heart sat down with Birgit Roesener, the owner of the Curves Windhoek, to talk about the importance of movement in an environment that is support of your needs.

“Women tend to do so much for others and not as much for themselves. Yet, if you look after yourself you are able to look after others. More campaigns these days are talking about the fact that we need to love ourselves, but loving yourself is looking after yourself.” says Birgit.

“Think about yourself in a few years time, what you want to do and how you want to feel. Because what you do now is going to affect this.”

“Think about yourself in a few years time, what you want to do and how you want to feel. Because what you do now is going to affect this.” Brigit was herself, a member of Curves Windhoek. When the opportunity came for this Namibian to buy the business, she leapt at the opportunity, “What appealed to me about this business was the support for women and that they have a safe space.” Curves, according to Birgit, is about developing health, well-being and strength, in a supportive environment aimed at helping women reach their fitness goals. The program uses a 30 minute combination of strength training, cardio and stretching.

“We have become so stationary in our lifestyles, we forget that we need to move our bodies. Not moving is decay. Every time you are not moving you are decaying. When you move, your body is building new.” Says Birgit.

“Exercise doesn’t just tone the body by helping to produce lean muscle tissue, it also plays a huge part in rejuvenating the billions of cells in the body.”

Fitness writer for the Independent, Pat Henry, writes “Exercise doesn’t just tone the body by helping to produce lean muscle tissue, it also plays a huge part in rejuvenating the billions of cells in the body.” He goes on to say that, “Stress can cause decay in the body’s cells, and if the stress continues long-term, the cells don’t repair. Alternatively, when you exercise, decay can trigger growth.”

“What works with our systems is that, it’s only a thirty minute work out. You see results, you are in a safe environment and whats also appealing is that it is hydraulic machines, meaning you cannot get hurt.” adds Birgit.
